• You will want to make sure you pick out a nice & sunny, and well drained area in your garden or potting container. 
•  If you choose to plant in the ground you will want to add in some rich natural compost or peat moss, a cup of bone meal/lime mixture. Make sure to mix it in the soil well before plant your Mum.  {Optional 
•  Window boxes & containers use a good potting mix such as Pro-Mix. 
• Mums like the soil pH 6.2-7.0  
• Plant Mums NO DEEPER than the container they were in. 
•  Mums really like water...Very important to make sure when blooming they are hydrated. 

• For the maximum production of blooming flowers, occasional prune on the tops and sides of the dead buds/flowers.  Pruning about 1-1.5in
• Do about every 4-6 weeks until mid July.

After Blooming Care

• After the flower & green leaves have faded & died off place double check your ID markers in the ground so you will be able to locate and cut down the faded mum to the dirt.
• PROTECT YOUR INVESTMENT  by add a few natural layers of compost to ensure the safety of the roots during the Winters.  (Mulch, Leaves, Shredded Cedar, Pine bark, Wood chips, even loose Straw hay) 

Can you OVERWINTER potted container?  YES!!!! With taking the proper steps

• First off you will want to make sure you will have an indoor cold, dark place and space. (Garage, storage shed area, COLD dark basement. 
• Bring them in after the first fall frost. 
• Cut back dead foliage 
•  Wrap the pot with burlap or something you have .
• You can start to bring the potted containers out in the Spring when the dangerous freezing weather stops & the Spring weather warm up. You should then decide to see if your Mum needs a larger pot and or fresh soil & fertilizer.

Spring Care

• Use a good soluble fertilizer with water like (20-20-20) a nice balanced nutrient solution. Another wonderful nutrient I would  recommend  are worm castings or plant tea, compost manure "Black Gold"  Mums are big feeders & do really well.  Try doing that every 2 weeks. Watch & see what your mums will do!! Health green foliage, strong stems & beautiful blooms.
• Clean & remove mulch or other compost debris allow sunshine to warm soil.
• At this point you can take a hand shovel or knife and separate small growing shoots from mother plant and place somewhere else.
• You can start pinching  again  for fuller look.

Plant 18 to 24 inches apart and place in a sunny area and water thoroughly right away!

For a compact well shaped plants. When spring plants reach a height of 4 to 5 inches break off “pinch” the tops about 1/2 off each  of the shoots continue pinching new shoots  every two weeks until  mid July.

*Please note that all of your chrysanthemums  had their first  Spring  hair cuts. They have been pinched already, so continue to do so in about another two weeks and so on …until the 4th of July. Don’t worry this doesn’t hurt them. They have been treated with natural insecticide and given vitamins, a.k.a. fertilizer.
